growing up, our family had little money, so my parents equated security and success with money. i must admit, i learned to think that way too. i looked up to people who had money and would often think people would like me more the more money i had.
seeing someone do something from the kindness of the heart is what warms me now.
i was having breakfast with some friends, and a young man came over with the other half of his sandwich wrapped in foil. he said he was off to the airport and wasn’t going to be able to give his leftovers to a homeless person, would i be so kind to do it for him… clearly this is something he does regularly – he takes his leftovers and finds a homeless person to give it to, and when he knows he’s not going to be running into someone to give it to, he finds someone to do it for him.
it was a simple gesture, but so beautiful and full of love.
