my daughter, riki, has a glorious job where she has to stay on top of the media, what is hot and viral. the other day she sent me this beautiful little girl who has such a pure understanding of what love is:
how is that such a young child can explain that which is so difficult for adults to live? she speaks of being “high up”, “can you smile?”, “trying to do best in [your] heart” – these are all thoughts we knew when we were young, before we observed adults being mean, or demonstrating the need to be right, or thinking they are better than others.
when i listen to this little one, i am reminded that she lives in me. there is a little girl in me, who is pure and from the heart. before my ego became too strong and loud, i used to be this little girl. she’s still there, i just have to quiet my ego to hear her.
there’s a little child in all of us. “i think if i can be nice, then i think all of us can be nice too.”
